Wolf Moon

Artist’s Private Collection

(12” x 12”)

Native American Tribes dubbed January’s full moon the Wolf Moon, because wolf packs could often be heard howling on snowy, cold January nights. This lonely wolf was cut and carved from Colorado Grey stone. He sits in crushed white agate and marble snow, on a rock cliff (I picked up on a hike at Apache Leap, AZ) before a bright selenite full moon, far above a forest of green granite pine trees. A glossy black Granite sky completes the background.

Perhaps gently falling snow would add to the poignancy of the scene?  I'll leave that decision to the client.

The selenite moon, white agate and marble snow radiate healing, peace, and balance, while the green granite pines and black granite bring protection and abundance energies. A delightful addition to any home.

Fun Facts: Native American Tribes dubbed January’s full moon the Wolf Moon, because wolf packs could often be heard howling on snowy, cold January nights. They are particularly loud and vocal in the first months of the year.

Wolves howl to communicate. They do howl in the direction of the moon, pointing their faces towards the sky for better acoustics. Projecting their howl upwards helps the sound travel farther, and their howls can be heard by others upwards to 6-7 miles away.

Wolves are often thought to be nocturnal, but are actually crepuscular, meaning they are most active at twilight, dawn, and dusk.
