This Hummingbirds and Columbine on Aspen trees was created with a mixture of natural stones, white porcelain, red tiles, rare iridescent green tiles (no longer available) and colored glass tiles.

It has been enhanced by the use of the following natural materials: black Slate inset in the porcelain aspen trees, white/grey Carrera Marble make up the hummingbird’s wings and tail, cream Marble from Turkey for the hummer’s bodies, a mottled granite in the dragonfly body, and green granite columbine leaves.

Slices of rough serpentine give the background lovely texture and contrast. The hand-cut Lava Onyx Travertine from Turkey frame is the perfect rustic compliment to showcase this legacy art piece.

Energetic properties include: Black slate for protection and balance. Marbles are thought to be cleansing and healing stones that can enhance the feeling of serenity. Green granite has been used for centuries to increase protection and abundance. Serpentine protects and calms. It assists in soothing the emotional body, release fear of change and hardship and helps us to look to the future with a positive outlook.

The glass columbines were cut using a wet band saw, then pieced together. Tiny slices of yellow glass make up the stamens. They were inset in the porcelain aspen trunks and made the perfect spot to nestle in the artist's signature ladybug.
This close-up emphasizes the lovely shades and texture of the serpentine background--the perfect foil for the smooth white aspen trunks and dragonfly wings.

Cut and fit travertine frame around the piece. Still working out best spot for dragonfly.
After cutting serpentine rocks to get slices, working out where the various shades of green and varied texture of the rocks would best suit the piece.
